Redhead is using too much oil!

Ok, this is not uncommon nor am I inept at searching but here I am asking for help on what should be a simple problem, My 98 700 is using 2 quarts oil to a tank of fuel. Cable adjusted as loose as it will go. the sled is new to me so I am not sure if it has done it long.
Is it as simple as the pump has failed?

it could have but not common on tripples,you shure the cable is
not unseated?. how much gap you got when cables are pulled appart?
