This past weekend i let a buddy ride my back up sled(2002 Viper)
he shot a stud through the heat exchanger and lost all the coolant. He ran the sled till it lost power and would not move anymore. When i got to him the motor was so hot, the temp sensor that plugs into the head actually melted.
I pulled the plugs and the center and mag cyls have a small amount of aluminum showing on the electrodes.
I Know i will need to tear down the entire motor and go through it. Just trying to get a feel for what i am up against.
I am not sure what to do about the crank. I never got a motor this hot before. Should i send out the crank and have every bearing replaced because of the heat? The motor can be turned over by hand with no noticable binding. what do you guys think?
The Motor had 6200 miles on it before this happened.
Thanks for any input

I had a 2002 viper that i blew off a hose when i hit a bit too much air... i never noticed until all the temp sensors and the heated carb knob melted out.what i done was opened the top end to see the damage i burnt one piston so i replaced only that and put er back together!! At the time i couldn't really change all the motor because i couldn't afford to. The engine ended up lasting me 26000 km but i wish i could say the same for the frame! RIDE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!
