just wondering if anyone here has went to a new Nytro ( or even an Apex) and how happy you are with it. i'm especially interested in how it handles compared to the SRX 700 (mine is a 98), i know the ride in the rough is better but i'm really interested in finding out how well they handle. i've been on this old girl for the last 18000km now so i think it's time for me upgrade. i'm planning on keeping it since i wouldn't get anything for it. i've got my 14 year old son that is going to need a machine so i thought we would restore it together then he can ride it. ( i know the power is a little too much but he has a good head on his shoulder). any feedback would be greatly appreciated. i'm going to ask the Nytro board as well for some feedback. ;)!

I ride a 2000 SRX with a edge rear skid. And i test drove a XTX on the same 20mins of trail i rode my srx on back to back. The XTX handles great, lil different. My srx would out handle it but im also running C&A ADX skis with 8" bides the thing is a slot car. However a little tuning of the XTX a good set of skis and it would be a great handing sled. Ride is awesome, bumps i didnt feel on XTX i felt on SRX. Power, seat of your pants youll think its slow and blah. You pin it its like one big bog, but its sneaky fast. It hit some great speeds, with a clutch kit, and exhaust it would be a nice lil 0-80 sled. Give me a cold day on a lake my SRX would wax its *** but its still impressive. Motor is amazing too, nice torque and soo smooth.

thanks for your reply roost'Er. this is the reason i have not updated yet. i love the way this thing rails on the smooth trails. but we know those are not always the case. i've got the viper shocks on it now with a newer seat and that has improved it a lot. i'm thinking of going with just a short track because i mainly do trail riding with a little bit of ditch banging when our area has snow.

all i have to say is ride a nytro first. do it in the conditions that you will most likely ride in or at least the worst conditions you will ride in. if i would have bought the nytor rtx se this year, i would have been pissed greatly. steers like a tank. but its really whatever works for ya..

Well I do not know if this will be any help for ya but I did ride a 4 stroke. Basically I am pretty sure the nitro is the same as the other 4 strokes. From what I get out of it it is like riding a atv/croch rocket on snow.

atv = it feels like you are on a atv. you sit high and can stand straight up without leaning over. The front feels the same as an atv. the front of the sled feels very light and feels like you are going to flip it.

croch rocket= the sled has quick throttle response. This is because of the fuel injection. Also is has the same power bandwidth of the croch rocket.

So basically you can ride better and have more reliable power than a 2 stroke. but impo the 4 stroke is a way different machine.

I was not impressed enough to by one because you can get any newer 2 stroke put a good skid, seat, and handle bar risers in and has almost the same thing except you don't have the oil & maintenance to worry about.

I just think they are not worth the money yet.

I am just helping someone out with info so I do not want to start a fight with this and that is better or ect...ect....

This impo and hopefully whatever decision you make you are happy.;)!

Go to the 4 stroke page and get input from people who ride them all the time. Just my 2 cents. I have a 03 viper and it handles great and I still like riding it. I just bought an 07 Apex Gt leftover and love the sled and will not get rid of it. With a few mods the sled will handle great. Like they said above try and ride one if you can.

I drove a brand new 2009 this weekend pass and i wasn't impressed with the ride over stutter bumps. If you like standing up then your legs absorb the shock. Maybe with some tinkering it would feel better. Also found the rear suspension noisy on rough terrain. As the others said it feels like a ATV and very light on the front, I like the power band and takes off like a rocket when you pin it. But I would be scared shi$less to drive it like i drove my srx on trails though ,I guess after riding a SRX it spoils you. I have 16,000 km on my srx , motor untouched ,i'm not about to let her go yet. just my 2 cents.

thanks everyone for your replies.

i have tried 3 Yamaha 4 strokes, 06- apex rtx, 05-RX-1 and a 08-APex LTX GT. i do love the ride/motor but i did not like the handling. now the GT finally got dailed in before we finished our trip a couple of weeks ago and i did not get a chance to ride it again. buddy and I are about the same weight so it would have been a good comparison. He said it was night and day after he did some suspension adjustments, handled a lot better and when riding behind him on the trails he looked like he was working a lot less making the turns. i don't like the engine breaking at all, this is why i was looking at the newer Nytro or even the 2010 Vector now since it has that technology. i guess it's something you can get use too, just been spoiled with the SRX handling.

i will post this question on the 4-stroke forum.

I was able to demo the yami's on tug hill where I do most of my riding and I loved the Nytro SE and Nytro XTX. Now would I stop riding my viper or rev for one? I'm really not sure. If I could pick one up cheap I would do it. I also Like to ride standing up 90% of the time so they fit me well. I love the torque of the 4's and I ride a Rocket during the summer so it is a lot like them. Your best bet is like stated above is to ride one more then once on the trails you ride on.

I agree. Post over on the 4 stroke side. There are numerous riders over there that have many thousand miles on a SRX just like you, but now drive 4 strokes. I have ridden many miles with a good number of those guys. No, the Yamaha 4 strokes are not all the same. For instance, the Apex is a very different ride than a Nytro, and somewhat different than a Vector.

My advice, read old posts or post a new one on the 4 stroke forum; find someone who rides like you do and came off a SRX; PM him for his input. He will likely give you more than what he might post on an open thread. I could give you a lot of input, but it would all be second hand. I like many on this side only have a few hundred miles on the 4 strokes, and never owned one myself to tune to my liking. I can tell you that there are many who have though.

I have an 09 xtx and my buddy has an 01 srx with some mods reeds ram air and clutch. On a smooth trail i have a hard time keeping up on my stock xtx. when the bumps start comeing its like he put the brakes on. On the flats the xtx is hard to catch in the 600' foot range it really halls ***. On the lake i take him out of the hole no problem on the top he could go by me if it gos over a 1200' or so. fwiw
