I have lost all heat to the heat grips and thumb warmer. I connected a jumper wire to the yellow/ red wire and the other to the heat grip and I am getting 9 volts at idle. All the elements for the grips show continuity, the resistors are with in spec. My stator coil reads 5 and spec is .34 - .44 ohms. I have yet to check the condensers or the relays. Is there any test for the relays and the condenser I guess I have to take to a electric motor shop. They worked good last time out and then this past weekend they don't work.
Any help would be great. Got to keep the wife's hands warm or she won't ride.

Mine went out on the last ride. Couldn't figure anything out, but didn't do continuity tests. Got home, had some snow, so ripped it down the block a few times... voila!! they work again. But now I'm afraid they'll go out again.

try hooking up just one hand warmer instead of the way they are now...this will tell you wat one is bad...happens to use sometimes...no handwarmers at all...hook just one up to see which one still works...we have had the heated grips go bad on each of our 97's...replaced 2 of them i think
Don't know what sled you are talking about but when the grips work intermittantly you usually have a broken wire in the steerring column. Take the foam off and peel back all of the protective tape on the wire and I am sure you will find a damaged wire, especially if the sled is several years old and/or has several thousand miles on it. I did a search on this site when mine had and issue and a majority of the problem was damaged wires in the steering column area like mine.

Sorry guys. It is a 2002 SXR 600 with about 2000 miles on it. I can't find any damaged wires anywhere. All the factory tape around the wiring is like new.. If I have continuity through each grip then the grips should work I think. What about the condensers. What do they do. Could it be a relay gone bad.

Ok. Tonight I went out and tested the relay to see if I had continuity and it was good. I started the sled to see if the grips by chance might be working and now I have another problem besides no heat grips. I lost power to the head light, tail light, tach and all dash lights. Is there a fuse somewhere. I know when I was testing the relay I mistakenly connected to the wiring harness and not the relay itself . Could this have shorted something out. I also tested the stator and one reading was supposed to be between .35 snd .45 ohm's. I got a reading of .50. Is that to to far out of spec.
Could the new aluminum bar risers be causing there to be no ground or something. This is when all the trouble started. I took off the power made block riser and installed some custom risers of my own design.
I am completely stumped and the dealership won't help at all. What about the condensers. What do they do in the system.
