I heard through the grapevine that at one time yamaha was offering free replacement hoods for the 2002 viper due to all the problems with it seating and cracking. I myself find this hard to believe but as the story goes if you complaned enough about this they would run you vin # and replce the hood. The vin# was run to exclude this sled from getting another one. Just throwing this out there to see if anyone else herd this. True or not. I havent actually contacted my dealer yet to ask them. I thought i would see what all the experts here have to say. Because if it was true im sure someone here would have known.

Yamaha's sollution to the problem was to trim the belly pans. I am not aware of a replacement hood offer.

I bought a 2002 Viper new & all I heard was that the dealer would trim
the belly pan & that would keep the hood from jumping out of the rubber
channel & cracking. Never heard of anyone getting a new hood.

True story

I got a new hood and when the dealer installed it they did the "recall" on the belly pan which was trimming the plastic.

ME 2. 02 ER purchased in Christmas MI. Didn't help much though. Still pops out, BUT, with 11,000+ miles , I DON'T CARE LOL!!

I got a new hood after the guides were cracked. The funny thing is the dealer didnt trim the belly pan, I did that myself using the information here.

My Viper S hood popped out from day one! Ended up putting hood staps on to help keep it down. I Also added a metal strip to the belly pan where the hood gets hooked and it helped a lot.

its true i bought my 02 new...and the freakin dealer had already used my vin to replace one of their own hoods......so when mine cracked they said.....sorry.......pissed me off bad......
