After a very long day [320 miles], lots of groomed lake miles at 90+ mph continuous running[20-30miles], my SRX's reverse chaincase was too hot to touch.
-synthetic oil, proper level
-all new bearings in fall
-gears plumbed
-chain tension setup finger tight
Questions:
1]would my chain tension increase or decrease at the high temps? [the chain should "grow" but all the other metal components are "growing" as well]
2]how hot is "normal" for a reverse chaincase?
3]should I be running my chain a little "looser"for the high speed running?
[additional note: the reason I checked my chaincase was because my ridding buddies 2000 Trail Mod T-Cat grenaded his chaincase on this trip!]

Remember the brake rotor is right there as well is the exhaust can. If it wernt right Id say after those miles and those runs it would have failed, so it must be setup right and seeing normal condtions.
Did you put on a new track, or adjust some track settings?? Can the sled be pushed by hand from a stop easily, in otherwards does it glide easily on the snow.
Are you sure you didnt touch the brake caliper beacuse on a SRX I don't know how you would even touch the chain case, or see it for that matter??

Thanks for reply:
-8 tooth extroverts with 25/38 gears...lots of drive shaft RPM![probably responsible for most of heat]
-144 1 1/4" Ripsaw full clip, with lightening holes drilled
-any time I stop on a grade the sled rolls away! But...interestingly it does seem to decelerate guickly when you get off the throttle, I had put it down to the quick backshifting of the "Team" secondary...maybe there is another issue?
-very little brake use
-Aaen tripples so the exhaust is no where near chain case[makes for a nice spot for small fuel container or spare oil]
