Are all 500 Phazer\Vmax ( 97-01 ) fan cooled? Looking for a sled for my son(14). Wanting a liquid cooled to help keep them toes warm and E/start for his developing muscles. Figured a 500 Phazer/Vmax would be a good fit for him.

the phazers were fan cooled sleds, I think the vmax's are liquid cooled. I have found that to keep your feet warmer is with a fan cooled engine, it will blow warm air out down around the footwells. They are good runing engines, have had three of them that had well over 10,000 miles apiece.

when we were young,we had no electric start or toe /hand warmers.Aren't you spoiling him then.It builds character and muscles.Nothing like hands on training.Just check out the Yamaha OEM part sites for certain year models and you will see what is fan or water cooled sleds.

The Phazer Is fan-cooled, V-Max is Liquid, pro-action chassis Phazer has 63-65 hp, old strut-type has around 58 hp, and the 500 V-Max is in the 80-90 hp range maybe??? Im not sure on these, electric start isnt a necessity, mines not hard to pull over, but I bought it with e. start on it, REVERSE is want you want to get him, not e. start although mine has both, reverse is almost a must, a lot easier to go backwards than haul around the machine in the trail. If he does any off-trail riding, get the Mountain Lite like I have, amazing in the powder for a 136" and can climb fair sized hills easily, mine goes wherever I point it to, and on good hard pack snow she'll reach 125 km/h, 130 if the conditions are perfect and its geared low so its not to bad.

Very true, blue. We also did not have video games, computers and 700 Yammies.Yes the kids these days are spoiled compared to what we had but so were we compared to what our parents had and so on and so on.
This sled that I want to get for him will also double as my wife's ride. So if she is not happy.... :whine: .......... Well, we all know how happens from there.

Back in the day we rode Grandpa's Snojet all over the farm. We also needed him to start that old sled. It seemed that he was the only one with the "magic touch". Later on he upgraded to a John Deere JDX 300. I could not imagine taking either one of these for a 200 mile day trip.

i am gone riding the 600.Got the thing started up using a serpentine belt I had sitting in the shed.I am off to burn up the snow some more.Got a full tank of gas and extra to spare.Your Model T crank thingie didn't work by the way,it kept undoing the clutch bolt...  :o| :D:DP
