was just wondering what was involved with building a 800 srx motor. Read that some people are using artic cat pistons and just want to see some of the builds. Whats the hp numbers and how reliable are they.

i have a bb 800 kit from maxximum performance i was told 180 hp and that is trail ported i havent put it together yet but can try to email you the info i have on it.

160-165 h.p..
add compression, big bore pipes, 38mm carbs, agressive cylinder porting & case porting - high 170's - 180 h.p..

jamie:
to get 205 h.p. you would need high compression, full race cylinder/case porting, 44 lectron carbs, race pipes & high rpm cdi.

Thats getting up around my "Mod" VMAX4 numbers[TMX 38s,866cc,Mod pipes-10200rpm,high RPM CDI,Case/Cylinder ported,15:1 compression ect, ect]I think it would be pushing it for a tripple, even at 800cc

I have seen a 780 run in the low 180's on big bore bender trail pipes and 38mm carbs pump gas friendly... I think the 205 on race pipes and high compression would be easily acheivable.. I'll let you know later this summer!!

200 hp from a SRX is achievable, but you would be riding a "Time Bomb" That kind of hp requires very high compression ratios, the SRX engine dose not like very high compression ratios. Its not a question of if it will blow up it is a question of when.
BufaloBob, you would know this, how many pistons did Tim Bender and his crew go through R&D'ing their SRX big bore kits with alot a compression ratio.

Bah. We'll see 190's this year on pump gas :)

I had Hauck's kit.

reimond, what's up w/the cylinder bore in the pic? looks like its offset towards the exhaust. notice how the head o-ring groove wall is very thin on the exhaust side, but on the intake side its thicker. what's up w/that?

oh yeah, how did you like the hauck 800 kit?

I'm betting it's the optics of the camera throwing you off...

What kind of power was the Hauck kit making?? What rpm do those pipes spin at??

Yeah, it's just a lighting/optic thing.

I have had race ported 780 hauck kit with hauck race pipes (192hp @ 10200rpm with race gas)) and this 800 kit with trail porting/pipes. It had 168hp @ 8500rpm when i dynoed it with premium fuel.

Actually i don't like Hauck's kits because i always have had bad luck with them. They eat pistons and drop cylinder skirts down to the bottom... Not nice. Also bore is so huge that you have always problems with head gasgets. I had to manufacture new head gasgets from copper and it was pretty ok after that.

sounds like a little too much piston/cylinder clearance?? did you have trouble w/the inner head o-ring melting, from being too close to the bore now?

Yeah! I shure had those problems. Also it cracked cylinder from bore side to gasget groove couple times. I made new rings from copper and no more leaking problems after that.
