I have a 02 Viper with about 3,200 miles on it. I was wondering what anyone thinks regarding things to do for preventative maintenance and at how many miles to do them. By the end of this season I expect to have about 7,000 on it. The sled is stock except a Camo 1.25 track. One last thing, do I have to be concerned with detonation on the 02 without DCS. Are there things I can do to make sure it never happens?

Might want to clean the power valves, or at least check them, info on this is in the tech section. Pull the carbs, clean, or at least check for varnish and build up. Pull the jets from the carbs and give them a good cleaning, again, this is in tech section. Grease all Zirc fittings for steering and suspension. Just give it a good lube on all moveable parts (linkages, bearings, etc....) with a good Low Temp White Lithium grease. You'll know if anything needs to be done with the clutches (springs, shoes, buttons, etc...) as performance will suffer and you'll notice this once you start riding, although it is not a bad idea to remove the clutch and break it down and give it a good cleaning, as belt dust tends to buil up in there after a while, again, clutch removal and breakdown can be found in the tech section. Might want to also check the sliders/hyfax (they are the long plastic slides on the bottom of the suspension rails) to make sure you have good meat on them. Anybody else feel free to add to this as I am sure there is much much more.... -Steve (O.C)

I just changed the track on my Viper. The bearing behind the speedo, I removed the oil seal just to see what kind of grease Yamaha put in there. Nothing in there. I cleaned the bearing out with carb cleaner and packed it with grease. Better than new. I would suggest every time that bearing is visable, clean it and repack it with grease.

Thanks for all your help. I have done most of that already so it is good to know I am on the right track. I have never done anything with the speedo though..
