My brothers and I are meeting in Ely, MN next weekend (3/20-22). We're going to ride up the Vermilion River to go waterskipping. I've never done this before, except maybe some small stretches (10') of river here and there over the years. We'll be skipping in 3' of water nothing life threatening. Does anybody have any pointers???
This video was taken last year, where we are going...

Check your belly pan and seal up any small holes with silicone, especially where the shock mounts poke through the plastic from the bulkhead. My belt on my sx600r gets wet pretty easy when skipping water. Also let the front limiter strap out to help keep the skis up or it will pourpose bad.

I was looking at those shock mount holes, and I see that someone already covered up the one on the belt side with an aluminum plate. Thanks, I was thinking about some silicone.

Well loosen up those limiters get some transfer and then silicone up all little holes in the belly pan and get a run for the first couple runs!!!!! Once you get a feel for it it will be a walk in the park.....Oh and once the belt gets wet your screwed!!!!It is a blast up there!!!! Bring a set of new cloths. Good luck!!!!!

Don't get caught doing it. The DNR isn't too fond of the activity. I once witnessed a guy up in that area crash his new Polaris RXL into some trees trying to get off the water and messed his front end up pretty good. Be safe and have fun!

Ya, I know that DNR hates it. This is state where nothing is allowed!

What they really like is when you sink it and leave it in the drink for a few days. Talk about a fine if they catch you!!!

I certainly wouldn't want to get a fine like that! I've heard they are pretty steep.

Well, I'm leaving tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!!!
I've got the underside all siliconed up and the straps and t-rods let out all the way. I've got both cameras charged up and plenty of tape.

I missed all the action...
Well, for most part we had a great weekend. It snowed on the drive up. 3" by the time we got to Virginia, MN (45 mins to go). It was snowing less when we got to Mom & Dad's. It snowed more overnight, about 4". I rode into town on the powerline the late season and all the snow was pretty hard. The fresh snow was hiding a rock, I posted the damage picture on another post. It was still a fun evening with my family, four of went on the ride to town and hit a fish fry.
But Sat. morning when I woke up I found that Jack's baby sitter(my mom) had to work that day, so sadly I backed out of the ride to Lake Vermilion. I went part of the way with Jack. It was alot of fun. But no Vermilion, not waterskipping videos of me. The guys got back that night with alot of stories to tell. There was not enough open water on Johnson Lake (Mom & Dad's place) to skip & video. After lunch Jack and I trailered the sled over to a friends house and rode alittle with him. The smaller trails were great, but the spur we connected to was 70/30, 70% snow cover. We turned around when It got too muddy.

I forgot to add something... In the second picture notice that a Cat has it's hood up. That sled blew it's primary by the end of the day, and 3 polaris' broke down: one the chaincase grenaded, one lost an IFS bar, and one broke a ski tip off.
