I Took This Job On This 600 Twin Because , My Neighbour Has Brought This Sled To The Local Yamaha Dealer And A Local Ski Doo Mechanic And Sled Still Does Not Run Good After $900

It Has A Flash Code Of 1 Long And 2 Short , And It Runs Like Crap Max 6000 Rpm.

I Pulled The Harness Its Ok .
I Pulled The Carbs And Everything There Is Ok .

Any Suggestions Where To Look Next ?

1998 600 TWIN SMART CARB SYSTEM VENTURE

IT ALMOST SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING IS TELLING THE CDI TO RETARD , LIKE ITS TOO HOT OR SOMETHING ?

I looked through the tech section and it shows nothing about the flash you are getting. I did see 2 short and 1 long which is the tps sensor. I think that is for the older vmax though.

I wonder if you cdi box is going out?

i found an old post from daman that refers to the flash code 1 long and 2 short as being the following ;

discontinuity or shorting of the air temperature senser is detected...check
for bad or broken wires in the harness or by the senser,or check senser
it may be bad..

would the sled operate this horrible if this sensor was bad ?

those 2 wires checked out ok ,, and also tested from the wire (s) to the frame and there is resistancy indicating no rub thru , i wonder if i could install a resistor between the carbs and cdi to trick the system to see if it runs any better and gets rid of the flash code ?

Well here is what i did i removed the entire cdi that operates all that system and guess what , it runs and no codes either , removed the air Box for a quick jetting test and VOILA 7900 RPM !!!!

Therefore my question now is what will happen if i jet the carbs accordingly and dont use that cdi box at all ?????

I unpluged the rear cdi " white plugs " , and from my evaluation it operates all of the smart carb system and thats it , the front cdi is coded 8cr what is basically the same cdi as a 600 red head , and operates all ignition and timing same as a regular sled .

I did not see any new codes flash.

thanx for replying horkn i have read lots of your posts and know that you are very knowledgable with this smrt carb stuff .

i just put a set of aaen twin pipes on my 99mm600 and have the same code..sled runs like crap! 6000rpm max. Did you ever find the problem?

flat slides, smart carbs, no not yet...wanted to see how it ran under load first but have no snow yet

I wonder if your having a lean issue or even running out of air to burn two different problems I know but then if the problem wasn't there before you did the pipes, your problem maybe because your way to lean. How do your plugs look? Go out and plug check it at your problem RPM you say you can get it to around 6000 and then it starts to act up get the sled warmed up bring the RPMs up to where it acts up and hold it there for a couple seconds then with it held there hit the kill switch with the other hand and then pull the plug. You may need to raise the needle and rejet
