Replacing the original engine with another 340, year? . The proplem, original wires from the engine- yellow/black, black, white/red, brown and yellow.
new engine-blue, black, white/red, brown, yellow(double connector).
Is the blue wire the same as the original yellow/black? that seems to be the only difference.

I'm pretty sure the original is a 84. How can I find out the year of the other one ? Number on the motors: 84?- E338 148565
replacement- E338 018313

E338 018313 is a older motor..most likely a 1979, the blue wire maybe an additional high speed source coil thats not compatible with the 84 cdi box and you will have to change out too many other parts to make it work. What is the problem with the 84 motor???

Oh boy, The 84 motor fried the connecting rod to crank bearing. When I got it a few years ago the crankcase was full of water. Flushed her out and crossed my fingers. I did get a few years out of her though. Looks like I'll be pulling the flywhell off and swapping those electrical components. Thanks for all your help again.
I'll have to buy ya a few  If there's a Ty ride in NY and I can make it.

Just an update, marked and swapped the stators, fired her up and purs like a kitten(oops, bad choice of words, purs like a yamaha). Just need some snow. By the way, Mr. Sled, Pulling the power valves for cleaning on the srx, do I need to put a new gasket on or can I use the old one?
This place is great .Thanks TY. :rocks:
