Header rap on exhaust pipes....

I see some poeple are rapping their pipes with header rap. Can someone please fill me in as to the benifits of this?

i had to do it on my exciter sx bender [pipe it keeps the pipe hot but cerimac coating does the same if your pipe is hotter it aloows the exhaust gases to get to supper sonic speeds faster and a 2 stroke is affected alot by pipe temp. a srx pipes have to be hot to work at its best.i pipe thats cold usually will not pull the right rpm till its hot

keeps the pipe hot to make more power and seems to keep the heat that would want to melt the hood, from melting the hood.
