All right fellows, here's the scoop. I have been riding a phazer mtn lite for 3 years now and am ready to move on to a better climbing sled. I just picked up a 2000 mtn max 600 which is stock. I am selling the mtn lite and thinking of building the MM to a boondocker. I ride mainly off trail and have some real nice terrain close to home. I like to try to climb but my mtn lite doesnt have the HP and I usually fall short of making it to the top.

Here is my question: with the MMax, what would the best mod's be to climb out of deep ravines. I live in the UP of mich and see lots of powder. I have some triple pipes available to me and jets to set it up. I was thinking about swaping cylinders, pistons, etc, to get some HP. If I don't mod this Mm I was considering a cat M but I do like Yammi's and would have a thrill turning this MM to a awsome boondocker. I rode my buddies sled and while cruising, you hit the throttle it hooks up so fast but mine rev's and than hits. I'm sure it's clutch but I don't understand the dynamics of opperation to do anything, but i am willing and capable of understanding. I am lookinmg to be pointed in the right dirrection for moderate climbing and boondockin. Thanks guys

The Bender triple pipes helped alot on my 700. Should help alot on your 600.

I would do the pipes, and clutch to specs. What kinda pipes can you get?
You could always find a 700 top end to put on it(correct me if I am wrong, the 700 will bolt onto the 600 bottom end) I know the bender triple pipes can be used on the 600 and 700,,,pipes are the same part number

I just put in a 46-42 dual angle helix, and it works GREAT!

Also a 151 Challenger is a great additon, even a 141 or 144 Challenger would be an big impovment over the stock track.

Also if your not worried about top speed, you could always gear it down. Cheap mod.

You could take one link off the sway bar to see how you like it. It will help to roll the sled in the powder, might be tippy on the trails. If it is, adjust the preload on your front shocks to compensate. If you do like it, you can remove the sway bar and lose some weight also.

Good Luck

EDIT: Get the newer style Yamaha Mountain SKis. Off a Apex Mountain/Nytro MTX/2005 Mountain Viper, or anything is better than the stock skis

I think you are correct in making my 600 into a 700. I believe I am in the 110 hp range now. If I were to go to the 700 I think that will get me 117? triple pipes will give me another 20 roughly so 135 ish I think would be great compared to my 80 now with the Mtn Lite. I realize the flotation of ski's will put the front up on top the snow but the belly and arms seem so close to the snow. Youn MM owners, do you find a need to raise the front or am I concerned about nothing. I have heard that viper shocks will bolt right on and lift the front end a couple of inches, do you find this to be true and worth while or would you say a good set of ski's will get the front up enough on top?

Both............

Both, the skis and the shocks. Yamaha dropped the ball when it came to the shock combo on the MM's. The hydraulic shocks are junk from day one.My riding buddy and I both have basically the same sleds and the same set ups. We spend most of our time shredding deep snow in swamps and lake edges up here in the Susitna valley, to get to them we have to ride some really bad bumpy trails and bottoming out was a big problem. We have cured nose dives by adding the viper shocks front and rear (revalved by Pioneer Perf.), Simmons skis, and MPI's transfer enhancement kit. and running the limiter straps loose. The shocks are a very tight fit and sit down riders it might be more tipsy, if you don't widened the front. We did not because we ride standing up most of the time and it does make a difference riding through the trees. Hope this helps,Soc

soc, sounds like we do sililar riding. I like the narrower stance and am always going through the woods between trees. I also stand most of the time unless on the trail heading out to explore. Okay, so I will add the shocks and ski's. Do you think the change over from my 600 to the 700 is a good idea, didnt seem like the gains are all that impressive. I could swap my parts for the 700 parts with my dealer who is a friend and probably not pay all that much, just not sure what my exact hp gain would be, do you know?

No I don't, but their are alot of guys on here that can answer the hp question, but I personally am partial to the 700. I will say on the front shocks again, itis a tight fit you must loosen the springs to get them to fit. then adjust on the sled. Also a big improvement on the rear suspention by having Pioneer Perf. revalve them and the addition of the transfer kit. I will never use control rods again.

Email me info on Mtn lite, I might be interested in buying.

I did sell the mtn lite this morning, sorry. I just saw a sled that I really like just a few hrs ago and now am thinking of selling the MM. It's a big decision but I need to make it fast or I will stick with the MM.

151 track will gain you the biggest improvement. peel the head gasket, drill the stock silencer...super easy and cheap, 2" hole saw through the exhaust outlet. gear it to 21-42, there are a number of good clutch setups to run, a multi angle helix is a good investment. I have a buddy that lives in Marquette that could set that thing up for you and you would be amazed. He is pretty much a yamaha guru and has done lots with the 6 and 7 mm. PM me if you want any more info.
