The Flooding I hear is the worst in Fargo's history and it is coming down my way thru the Red River System.I have pre-elevation forcasts today and it puts the water 3 feet lower then the Flood of the Century here in Southern Manitoba. But the crest is 3 weeks away and I am getting concerned. We are getting extre precip. now which doesn't help.

What you wanna know? I from the Minot area but have read lots on the situation at hand. Thousands of people are busy at work filling sandbags around the clock at the Fargo Dome in Fargo and also at the Civic Center in Bismarck. Right now they have fan boat's down there to rescue people. Talks of temporary flood walls collapsing south of Fargo. River is said to crest at 41 ft on Thursday. National Guard has been brought in to help.

UND in Grand Forks is encouraging students to go to Fargo to help sandbag, and was even bussing them down until today when they got 5" of snow in that area making sandbagging that much more fun. NDSU in Fargo is closed until further notice to allow those people to help.

I am following their situation and trying to see how bad it is going to be for us in the North here.We have cooler temps now and the Red River has a lot of ice jambing going on.We have to clear this before the water hits from ND.
Just wanted to know how bad it really is as I am getting ready to prepare for the Flood here.As long as not much more precip happens,we should be ok.I will be building my retaining wall and my mom's to since she is 4 -5 feet lower then me.Wasn't going to erect my Flood Wall, but forcast today puts the water at about 2 feet lower then my basement windows. But now I think I will erect the wall just in case things change for the worst. This has been an awefull winter this time around.

Our Floodway Diversion System has been worked on since the 97 Flood. It is now able to handle about 20% more water now then in 97,which will help greatly. My yard was 9 feet deep in 97,luckily I was told to build my house up high.Don't want any of that dirty water in my basement or house. My mom is getting a trailer to remove all her furniture from her house just in case this time.I have to start building her Flood wall first,it will be 8 feet high.I will submit pics later as the water rises here.

You bet, also for the first time in History they completely shut down the Garrison Dam on Lake Sakakawea.

we will have to see if Fargo makes it,pretty intense situation out there.Just tells us what we have coming this way....Grand Forks better be ready to.

UND in Grand Forks has now canceled classes through Monday. River is expected to crest at 41 ft in Fargo on Saturday. Grand Forks is expect to crest between 50 to 53ft. As you can tell by the Grand Forks cam it is currently snowing there too.

well it is snowing here to.There is no heat expected even by next Wed.,and still calling for flurries. The Sun won't even be shining,a lot of snow has to melt in order for us to erect the flood walls. This is nuts.In 97 the Flood Stage was 54 for Grand Forks. So 53 is a low #.If Fargo is higher then 97,wouldn't Grand Forks be higher then, the flow comes their way.

In Fargo they are told now to bag to a height of 43.This is not just simply throwing a few bags on top. They have to start at the bottom and work up again to the new height. Not sure all have time for this. And there is talk about the Levies holding for 7 days, that people should basically get out because when a Levy breaks, the wall of water will be punishing to say the least. Some say that not all Levies will stand the force of the water for a good period of time needed. We here in Winnipeg area have already lost house's to overland flooding created by Ice jambs. The temps are cooler,so Ice is being stubborn to break up.We are warned already the cool weather is keeping the river from rising to fast, but it will get back up there when the rest of the snow melts combined with water from Grand Forks.Anything can happen yet.

The Red is at 40.6 and they are hoping it stops at around 41.5 ft. They say the rise of the Red is slowing down and that is a good sign. If you go on http://www.wday.com/ you could probably watch some of the news reports that we have been getting here.

I am actually in a different area so I am ok. There is two channels I have read, one with the Red, Wild Rice rivers and another with the Sheyenne river. I live on the Sheyenne river side and it has a diversion that is working very well. So right now West Fargo is not having any problems like Fargo Moorhead is having. This is a historic event so I have been watching everything pretty closely. An ice jam caused a small concern but they quickly took care of that on the diversion and have the equipment on standby should it happen again

Well thats good to hear. Kinda like the ice jams in Bismarck. I wish everyone in Fargo the best of luck as they are in a huge battle right now and working around the clock.

they are saying for Fargo a crest at 43 feet now.And major storm coming in to the area which will dump more snow and rain. Can't be good for the dykes now. Some areas are going under already, evac starting to happen.
