I was messing around getting ready to fog my sled and thought hey I should pull out a powervalve and see what she looks like. First of all they slid out like butter which surprised me but also I was suprised at how clean they were especially because I use non-syn. oil. I have only put about 500 km on this sled but I don't think the owner before me cleaned them very much so thats why I was surprised. In the pic they look kinda dirty but really there is only a tiny thin layer of black soot or whatever you want to call it and that iut, it almost looks like it is painted black because the layer of carbon is so thin and smooth.

P.S. Would the scraper in the attached pic be okay to clean the p.v.'s as long as I don't do it very hard?

Scraper

Do not use a sharp instrument. Avoid damaging
or scratching the surface.

Thats what the pdf says 'word for word'

Use a wire brush. I used a razor blade gingerly like for the heavy stuff....

If you need something to scrape with, I think you will need something made of plastic. Say a plastic knife with the teeth grinded away.

If you have a few days, let them soak in simple green and wipe them clean. For tuff stuff, red devil single edge razor blade scraper, (single edge on each end of the blade, very flexible and will not harm coating).. (It was my grandfathers scraper, don't know if they still make them.. but that thin blade works great and is still available)...

you may as well just pull them all and re do them, then you'll be good to go
for next year, i do not like using sharp scrapers or any scrapers on the valves but thats my way, i soak em like Whammy said then a good carbon cleaner and good ol elbow grease.
