My current ride started life as a 99 600. Great little sled. The 98's fell under the srx crank issue era so he might want to run the vin at a dealer and see if it shows as fixed. Other than that they didn't have any more isssues than any other yamaha. w-arms, clutching is off from the factory, etc... Compression check, powervalves, and general looking over and go from there. It was only a two year run on the 600 so used motor parts and such are a little harder to find if you need them, but it was a good little motor.
Thanks Ryan, I was wondering about that crank issue. I actually called the guy today and the motor is the only usable thing of it...Will see if my brother wants to fix it or if it's worth it to buy it and part it.....BTW Phazer long track is not done yet.....Will work on it thru out the summer, when its nice and warm....

The only good thing is the motor. That's a rough life.
Get that phazer done would you. I'm gettting the itch to do a phazer project again. Had my daughter out in Cooke with me and she thinks that mountain riding is the ticket so we might build her a no weight fanner to play with out there for a year or two.
Looks like we might some April sledding in again this year here. 12" and high wind can make for a good time for a day or two.

Way ahead of me. I've got one sitting in the yard, one in the garage ready to go, and one in the trailer still set up for 10000' If it snows enough I'll switch it back to flatland settings and go tear up the ditches for an evening or two. Then they will all go to bed for the summer.

What exactly was the crank issue on the 98s? I see there is one on Craigslist in Grand Marais. I might sned my nephew over to look at it.
They had an problem with coming out of phase. All the 98's and some 99's were effected. Most have been fixed by now, but one could have gotten by.
