1989 VK540 with 8000 km. The engine starts well, runs well and revs to about 4 or 5000 then the ignition cuts the spark. When the RPM drops the spark starts again and it runs. It idles well. Have changed the coil, plugs, plug wire, CDI unit. Any suggestions before I get into the engine real deep where the lighting coil and and other electrics are?

try cleaning the flywheel magnets. might be too much corrosion for a good signal at upper rpm. either that or fuel filter/main jet is plugged with crap.

pull flywheel check key check stator check wires to cdi for rub through

Thanks for taking the time to answer. Looks like I need to pull the flywheel. Will do as soon as I get a chance and I will update this thread for others at that time.

please do update this thread... this problem often comes up and I have yet to hear a solution...
