I am in the process of rebuilding a 98 sx when I took the chain case apart I notice that the bearings are sealed on one side and the seal is on the oil side my question is why? Wont this keep oil from lubing the bearing and seal? Why not rely on the oil seal to keep the oil in the gear case and allow the bearing to be lubed by the chain case oil? I have seen this on other gearcase before in some of the heavy equipement I work on but there is always a oil gallery for oil to get to the bearing. Looking for some thoughts on this . Thanks

the reason is to keep metal debris from the chain out of the bearing.the seals in those bearings are not very good at sealing out oil so enuf gets by to lube the bearing and the chain cuttings are kept out.
