What RPMs should I run on my 02 700 mm?

Just installed a SLP can and the sled holds just over 9000 rpms throughout. Before the can it was 8800 rpms. Is this too high? Should I do something with the primary clutch to bring it down? I am running at 9000-12000 ft.

You should be at 8500 rpm. add heavier rivets to the primary weights.

Thanks Turk. I thought it was too high.

Any suggestions on what weights I should use?

Again, my setup is:

2002 700 MM Stock except for SLP Can
Jetted for 9000 - 12000 ft

Thanks

Hey Turk,

If I am going to get into this, I'd like to make sure I have the whole clutch setup correct.

Here's what I have:

Primary spring: Yellow White Yellow
Secondary: Green

Can you tell me the total weight I should have in each of the 3 positions on the primary weights?

Also...are my springs the right setup for 9000-12000 ft?

Thanks again.

Turk,

I just looked at the stock specs on this website. The darn clutching looks like it is all set stock, or sea level. I need to change everything.

See my previous note...

I need weights, primary and secondary springs and maybe a helix. If you can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

dont confuse yourself. the springs, weights, helix are all the same for all elevations. what you change is the rivets in the 8cr arms and the preload on the secondary when adjusting for elevation.

I don,t matter how much weights are in the arms now. I told you how much to add.

a sea level setup would not pull 9000 rpm at elevation unless there is something really problematic going on or a bad belt. listen to turk and add weight. check the rollers/bushings and belt while you are at it.

Snow is coming, I need to get back to this project.

See the previous threads. Turk recommended I ADD 2 grams inner and 1 outer. I just pulled the clutch apart and the weights have aluminum rivets in there now, but I have no idea of the current weight. Can anyone tell me how I figure that out or what the total weight I should in the inner and then the total for the outer?

Thanks!

Aluminum rivets are .8 grams. Go to a 3.1 inner & a 2.4 gram outer rivet.

Finally had enough snow here in Colorado to test out Turk's recommendation...

Turk, you NAILED it! At 10,000 ft, going uphill in powder, I am sitting at 8300 rpms and boy does she pull!

Thanks for the support.
