Well as the heading says I'm new here. Now comes the awkward part and keep in mind I'm not trying to offend any members here. Here goes, I have a 89 Honda Pilot I just bought and it has a 600 VMAX powerplant in it. What I need is information on this motor, find out what year the motor is etc. The guy I bought it off off says it needs a head gasket ,I asked him how he came to that conclusion and from his vague answer I think he must have ESP or something cause he didn't know,so thats the jist of it.

The #'s on the motor is 8X6000129, he said he thought it was an 85, also said it was ported & polished. Where is a good place to buy a manual for this motor and parts for it also? As soon as I find my compression gauge I'll check that out too probably do a leak down test too, thanks.

You might want to post this in a new thread instead of in here.

Great point, so I split it out for him! ;)!

Oleblu72, welcome to TY! I moved this to a higher traffic area to try and get you the info you're looking for. A picture would be helpful and is it a twin or tripple?

Thanks for the welcome guys, I checked with the local Yamaha shop it turns out according to the #'s its a 84 540 VMAX and it is a twin. Any members familar with this motor?
Searched several Yamaha sites on the web but couldn't find a manual for it, would like to get a factory manual.

And as far as listing I didn't have any sleds thats not quite right , had a 340 El Tigre and a 82 500 El Tigre, I quit buying sleds when it quit snowing in Ohio.

Well Known Motor Sure

i was thinking vm 540, that motor has o rings for H gaskets, should still be able to get parts for it. just chack ebay for a vm of that year for the manual.

Thanks for the replys guys I found a dvd manual on line. The guy I bought it off of thought it had a blown headgasket ,he also disconnected the fuel pump and was running a gravity feed system, I wonder if he forgot to put a cap on the vacum source that would make it run pretty crappy.
