Im looking at a SRX and so far I like it.

Only thing Im worried about is the guy said that it has rifled carbs

Unless he meant bored carbs, where's he from? I know some people call there sleds BIKES...

it's not bored carbs..

Guy's i've heard of this but have no info on it,,if you don't know don't post..he's looking for real answers i'm sure.

seriously,

Who are you new guys with shallow posts? Im looking at a 2001 SRX to buy and the guy said he sent the carbs in to have the rifle bored. I am wanting to know how it would affect the performance in a good way or bad. My only wonder before I pull the trigger on this sled.

call em. i'm guessing that rifle boring a carb will put a twist in the bore causing the air to be more turbulant and atomize the fuel more efficently. but for the record products called tornado and such are sold for vehicle use and have these claims. i used one in the f 150 i had a while back and i did experience better performance. a friend at work bought it put in his truck and saw no difference lent it to me and i was a test bed. cannot find a reason that this should hurt performance might just be a cool thing to talk about on ty rides.

Thanks. thats exactly what i was hoping to hear. I think he knows im buying the sled

worst case scenario, puchase a used set and rebuild them and bore them to your specs, lots of the on ebay.imo, good luck with your purchase

I've heard of some cases of bored carbs causing a bog or flat spot in an engine if it isn't jetted right but this was mostly in drag sleds turned trail machines. If this was done by a reputable shop then it shouldn't cause any issues but like was stated above if you find the engine quirky then buy a used set and put stock brass in them and run er.

Yes, it supposedly increases air velocity, bore and rifling can go hand in hand..

I have heard of this and seen it done. It looks real similar to cross hatching in a cylinder. but I have also heard different shops do it different ways also? Suppose to create a swirl like effect with the air/fuel mix. Yes I think it could be compared to a carb bore somewhat. It wouldn't deture me from buying the sled. I had this done by Speedwerx to my Viper you see to the left under my screen name. It seem to help mid-range with thorttle response to top end. Worked better after the motor was ported though.

Hey Tom, welcome back to the srx club then. I have put new pistons and rings in my srx, but they aren't broken in yet. Yes, one of my reeds was broken (remember the discussion about that?). I also have the parts list if you want to "upgrade" your sled to a dcs equipped one. How many miles does this srx you're buying, have?

Be sure to check all the usual things before you buy it.

norwegian,

my SRX blew up because the engine builder cut he heads too tight and told me to run pump gas.

There was never anything wrong with it if I had left it stock. 01 jetting and everything in good working order, you wont need DCS

If you run hard witch I know u don't!!.. run it rich at first.. We used to call it checking;,, putting check marks on the airhorn to cause turbulence,, but can, and did for us run leaner on the round slides. . I bet now days they have it down to a science, and can bring good things.
