whats the best set of pipes i can get for my 98 xtc 700 my buddy bought a big bore kit for his p-wod 700 an i jus wanna spankem

What kind of sled does your buddy have, and what kit did he put in it?

A good set of pipes and a good state of tune will put you around 140 hp. Most current 700's have right around that power, stock.

he has a 98 xc 700 with an 770 big bore kit with psi pipes cheater domes an carbs bored an hes ported an polished

Save your money

Don't bother....unless he's a poor tuner and you are a great one you will still loose. Sorry

Out of a 120ish hp stock red head?? how u getting 140 from just pipes
and a "tune"?

pick up a '00 to '02 srx pull off a plug wire and spank 'em still. :)

I will also say you'd be better off with an SRX of 01 or 02 vintage with proper clutching. You will be amazed at how much of a spanking you'll likely lay on your buddy even with his pipes etc.

If memory serves me correctly the guys who have 02 SRX's and trail ride them were having issues with the DCS coming on at full throttle but cured that by jetting to 01 specs.Something to keep in mind.

im farely new to yamaha due to jumping over from arctic crap so im jus now getting setled in and im liking what im seeing

20 hp from a set of triple pipes seems to be what many of those here on TY say. Also, it is not out of line when a set of pipes on an XCR/ XLT 600 trip gets 125 hp from a 96 hp motor. I say getting 20 hp out of a red headed trip with pipes added should be very easily doable.

Obviously you need to recalibrate the carbs when going from 1 pipe to 3, especially with a pretty good power addition. So there is the "tune" I speak of.

I have seen too many guys just throw pipes onto a stock sled and toast it, due to not re jetting.

Common sense is not that common anymore. Probably why his buddy's piped and bored xc grenaded it is due to not getting jetting right.

Good call on the ship jumping. Any other brand is a huge upgrade from cat.
