True gary but RP's are just over the top RP has been riding the wave of the uninformed consumer for a long time. Marketing and no delivery will eventually catch up to you.Good for BP! About time they got called out for their ridiculous claims.nosboy said:I suppose you could BLOW HOLES in ALMOST every manufacturers claims... They can't compete with the big boys who have all the $$ for rigorous R&D and engine sequence testing. So they end up resorting to claims that are never fully substantiated. Royal Purple is among the worst.
This is why I've always like Mobil 1's approach to marketing. Let the product, OEM specifications, endorsements and racing teams speak. You either meet a specification or you don't. It's that simple. You have to pay to play. Everything else is just marketing.
my $.02 and MO....

A friend of mine swears by royal purple. Funny thing is, he put in RP in his tranny last summer b4 leaving for a trip, and sure enough, the tranny stopped working half way through the trip. He lost his two lower gears. Car only has 120,000k on it and is never winter driven. Maybe just a coincidence.

I have RP in the 4runner now, and its been in there a few months. Compared to the quaker state Q and Tq power oil, it does not seem any better for mpg or hp. Although the 4runner does really wake up and get noticeable better mpg with all 3 of those synthetics versus dino oil.
Advance auto had a sale that made the normally 8 dollar a qt RP cheap enough to try. I think it was 35 dollars for 5 qts of any synthetic and a mobil 1 filter. granted I needed an extra qt, but it was only like a little over 40 dollars for 6 qts and a mobil 1 filter.
Pretty soon it is time for an oil change on it, I will get whatever synth is cheaper.
