Will the front ohlins from a 97 sx 600 fit a 01 MM 700? What mods might be necessary?

Will they fit? Sure, but the top mounts are different so you will need a set from the sx sled. They are also going to be shorter travel.
Are you sure they are going to be shorter? The stock mm shocks have 67mm? of travel..

Guess I don't know for sure. I forgot that the mountain max shocks are shorter. I've put standard viper fronts on my mountain max.

Ohlins
Because of the OE sag on my 01 SXr, the ohlins with the modified 97 SX top brackets and ski stance reduced to 40 inches rides higher in the front then before. I also am using the same ohlin as my centre shock on my long travel Pro Action rear skid and liking the easy adjustability from trail to mountain riding. Rear shock is a Firecat Fox Float
