I just took an Exciter 440 out of my buggy and i just put in an Exciter 570 because i wanted more power, electric start and an engine that was water cooled. My first question is what are these ports for.

I have the repair manual but no where in it does it say anything about them or have a clear picture of them.

Now that's the least of my problems. First off the engine starts and idles with no problems, 1 pull everytime. Here's all the details so everyones on the same page. Main jet is the stock 310, pilot jet sis the stock 42.5. Both carbs and all jets have been completely cleaned and reassembled. I adjusted the air screw and throttle stop screw according to the manual. The engine does have a set of twin PSI pipes. I have tried to research as much as possible but i really am carb illiterate, i just need some diagnostic help.

So the engine idles fine but as soon as you open the throttle the engine goes BURRRR BURRRR BURRRR. I know really bad description but it doesn't sound like it drowning in fuel, then it would just fall dead on it's ***. If i open the throttle all the way i get a lot of blow back through the carb. So my question is where do i start. Does it sound like a fuel issue? needle not set right? Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'd love to get this thing on the trails soon. Thanks Jay

If they were for heated carbs does that mean coolant ran though them? If so then i don't have to do anything with them. Now i just have to figure out these carbs. God i love EFI, carbs are so hard to tune to me.

The lines are for coolant to heat the carbs for very cold temps. Not needed for you.

The problem sounds like TORS system keeping rpm down, throttle switch wires needs to be jumped

It looks like you are running no air box and using snorkells. If this is the case the stock carberation will be lean and the motor will will burp and fart all over the place. If pulling the choke on when trying to rev it up helps, it points to the motor being to lean. Richen up the bottom end by putting in bigger pilots, turning in the air screw or a combination of both. Picking up the needles will help fatten up the mid range. Also you want to go up a couple MJ sizes if you are not running the airbox.

Toydoc: yeah after doing some more reading last night i realized it might be the TORS kicking in. I'm gonna do the bypass and see if that helps.

As for the stock airbox no i'm not using that but i probably will fab up an airbox for it. The buggy does get some dune time and i'd like to keep the sand out. I'm gonna go to the yamaha dealer today to get a variety of jets so i can start playing around. When reading the plugs on a 2 stroke is it similar to a car, light brown means it's running good?

Looks like it was the TORS acting up, bypassed it and it revs all the way now. Still haven't had it under load since i'm not finished with it but i'm just happy it runs good. Still have to get some jets because i'm sure it's gonna need some tweaking since this is mostly running in warm weather.

It does not need an airbox, that is only for noise reduction and does no filtering, but you definately will want air filters on it. K&N's would be simplest if there is clearance for them there. Whatever you use will have to be in place before you do any tuning.
