:wel: hey guys, im currently running SX-R skis on my '97 SX, the skis plastics are getting worn down pretty badly, and i was wondering if a set of apex (MTX) skis would work.

I ask because they are a saddless design, and well im not sure if the spindle design is the same.

also do any of you know how well the Apex MTX skis handle in a hardpack and ditchbanging situation? i ride in Minnesota and we do get alot of snow. I would like the added floatation of these skis but im not sure if i will be happy with them. Thoughts?

I'm sure they will fit but I don't know how well they perform. If you're getting a good deal on them then I would use them but if not you should maybe look into some aftermarket ones, I think they might be better for flotation etc IMO.

I have added a set of saddleless skis on my 95 Vmax, however, many have advised against it. I have ignored those and will wait to be laughed upon as my skis get torn off of my sled. My thoughts are, "well it looks strong enough", "they look better"," and hey, my sled is now strickly a trail machine, it is geared totally wrong for any type of ditch banging". I wouldn't do it if I were going to be riding in rough areas. But my machine for the next two seasons will be strickly a trail machine. You can see the mods here http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showthread.php?t=60865&page=2&pp=10

It will lower your front end with the saddless ski. They are made for the longer spindle sleds. For them to work right, you would need viper trailing arms and spindles. They will work with the bushing kit supplied, but like I said lower your front end some. If all you do is trail ride they will be fine. I ran saddless Mtn skis on my viper and loved them. Maxdlx

ok then i guess im gonna throw out the idea of Apex skis, thanks for the info, i just dont have the funds to spend on new trailing arms and spindles, how about the stock skis off of a Mountain Max, how wide are they, and do they perform well on and off trail, aswell as ditch banging?

I ran Mtn skis on my 97 and loved them. They aren't as wide as the saddless but work good

I think you'd be happy with some simmons skis there aggressive on the trails and float great.you may be able to find a set of those used at haydays for a good price.

Look for a set of

Sly dogs
C&A skis
Simmons

There all good skis
And used you can get them for a good price. I happen to be Selling a set of blue C&A's if interested.

Let me know

Jeff
