I want to put polaris idler wheels (5.350") on my viper and i thought that i read that any polaris wheels would go right on.I also own a 02 polaris 700 edge x and checked the bearings and the I.D. of the polaris is bigger.I would like to use the blue wheels that came on the blue edge's.Do i need to put a differnt bearing in these to make them work or is there a different year on the polaris that will bolt right on the vipers?
There are plastic bushings in your Viper wheels. Snap 'em out and snap 'em in to the Polaris wheels. I have them on my XTC,Viper,Venture AND my Attak!
I think i figured out the problem, I bought the viper used and it does not have the factory installed wheels on it,so i don't have a plastic bushing in them. The wheels that are on there now i was able to get them from yamaha though. They are a blue directional type wheel that are open.

What is the actual gain from this?
Thanks

Polaris wheels are oversized compared to the stock Yamaha wheels. Less hyfax wear, and less friction. When I put them on my Viper, it almost freewheeled when letting of the throttle.

Yea I'm thinking of changing to a little oversized wheels too, I keep burning hyfax to fast near the end of the year on those last time rides. Someone else made a kit I saw for the front wheels to make them offset and sit a little lower but I can't remember where I saw it. Its funny I never realized why they give you a wear spec in the Manual for the diameter of the wheels. I guess they actually do need to be replaced even if they are still in one piece.
Pioneer Perf makes an offset kit. Put one on my Viper last year. Just have to dial in the ski pressure again

did you like the pioneer kit? does it seem to work as good and be as effective as the larger polaris wheels? i'm interested in the pioneer kit myself.

Did not get a lot of miles after puttin in the kit. The big thing is to set the front ski pressure again. I know I lost alot of carbide bite with the wheels being lower. My track also was losing clips prior to the kit install and near the end of the season the track clip situation got alot worse and I parked the machine. One clip got lodged in the frt exchanger protector.

Pioneer and polaris wheels work gret for trail riding and hyfax but if you do alot of jumping I advise not to do either. When you jump the weight is disperesed on the rails. With bigger wheels or relocating you land on those pressure points and crack the rails. My brother and me have both went through rails.

That is a good point, never thought of it that way. Does switching the old wheels for new ones make a difference? I know they are expensive through Yamaha, but it may be worth it after spending $80 on hyfax every winter?
yes they make huge difference and I highly recomend either mod if you an average trail rider.

I just got a new skid off of Yammapiggy on here so the wheels will be fairly new for now, but I'll have to buy wheels for it soon because you can't replace the bearings on some of them. Still don't understand what Yamaha had in mind when they did that.

more money to sell u the whole wheel instead of a bearing
