i was doing my preseason checks as well as carb cleaning on my97 sx700. the first thing i noticed was the fuel lines were full of blue oil. i thought that was odd and when i took the bowls off the carbs, all three were full of oil. this sled has not run since last may and i have not fogged the engine. the spark plugs are dry and i don't think there is any oil in the bottom end , just the carbs and fuel pump. i took all three lines off the pump and pulled it over, nothing but oil poured out. i know there should be some oil in the lines and bowls which never evaporated over the summer but this was strait oil. is my oil pump screwed, why did the oil gravity feed into the carbs like that? any body ever see this? thanks

p.s. the sled when used last season was great on oil, i never noticed any difference in the amount of oil used . always been great

This seems very odd and not only would I be considering the oil pump itself, but I would also suspect the fuel pump... The fuel pump should not have allowed the oil to move through... Perhaps you running the engine for a while might just reset the diaphrams in the fuel pump and stop the infiltration of oil once again...

Just a thought...

Keep us posted..

I replied the other evening to this post but somehow deleted it shortly after..

i put it all back together, drained all the oil from the fuel pump and am going to try run it, if it continues to fog for mosquitos i will replace the oil pump. who knows, maybe just a fluke thing happened. oh yeah i did see your other post, i posted this twice, once in tech and once in sxr talk. not knowing if it would be missed by sxr riders. so it wasn't your fault it was deleted, it is in the other section. my fault for posting twice. sorry.....

sounds like you have a fuel or oil vent line plugged. if the oil was filled cold, vent plugged, then stored where it was warm it would push oil into the fuel lines through the fuel pump.

I had this happen to me with my gas tank. filled it cold, then it sat in my garage, warmed up and pushed gas by the check valve to the oil pump and pushed oil and gas out of my oil tank vent in the handle bars.

this could be happening to you the other way. something to check.
