thought somebody would have chimmed in by now,,.. But pipes would be your next or best bet...... o ya ,, make sure your clutching is doing what it can.....

Peel a layer (or 2, dont quote me on how many layers) off the headgasket, it will bump up the compression, do a search to find out how to do it.

i pulled the sway bar out of my 1997 SX (its an SXR, it has long travel all the way around) the sway bar links the front together, taking it out makes the front travel independently.

thanks ill reserch that im so stoked to ride it how much power should i expect from it im upgrading from a 1988 polars indy sport 340 (big upgrade) haha :2strokes:

I had an 01sxr700 and it was a great sled bulletproof. I did not really have any motor mods done to it but it went right along. The only thing i can say for certin is you have way more studs than you need. They are going to nock off quite abit of top speed. Maybe you could pull some of them out and keep them as spares? Many different opinons about how many studs to use I had 96 up the middle and it was enough. Dont think i would want more than 144 though.

mech31 wins a prize! Way too many studs, drop it to 144 and only put them in the middle (IMO).

Slayer is also correct, 1 or 2 layers of head gasket can be removed to improve performance. If you do 2 layers you should probably stick to Super when you fill up. However you do not want to remove they sway bar unless you are riding in the mountains. If you trail ride, definetly leave it in.

Other options:
Reed spacers also make a notible improvement on the SX motor.
Clutching always helps, especially if you try some of these mods. I like heel clickers myself.
And yes pipes also make a big difference, but typically are not legal (your call). You'd be better to leave the single pipe and have it ported!

yah im gonna try peeling a layer off the gasket im taking the dyno port can off the next dor neighbor is blind and sosent like the noise haha

Dont do a can, just bore out your stock one sounds much better. Do a search on clutching by Turk and your sled will fly trust me. I love my 700

I believe the 00 has o-ring for a head gasket. If you do a head mod call Hauck Powersports '98-'02 SRX Head Modification to get 5-8 more HP mid-range, and 3-5 HP top-end. Best part is that it runs on pump gas. '98-'99 kit includes a thicker base gasket. They will mill your head and cut the combustion camber as well.

I would start with clutching and gear your sled for what you are doing. want more performance send your heads to Hauck and order Carbon Tech reeds and I believe they are HT370 and the list goes on porting, case matching ect.

Hope this helps

none of the sx engines have o rings.
Take 1 layer out of the head gasket if you run pipes two layers out if you run the stock exhaust.
On the main page there is a tech section there is tons of info and tricks for these sleds.

I suggest trail porting, reed spacers and carbontech reeds....you will notice a big difference.

the pipes are a great mod and also create a ton of horsepower but my brother has them on his 2000sxr700 and i do not and yes he is a tiny bit faster but we have to stop double the times for him to fuel up. you drop from like 15-17mpg to at best 10mpg but more likely to be around 8 or 9

he needs to tune that thing up then .the only time i ever got that bad a gas milage with my piped sx was when I was pulling a ski doo!

If stock it needs clutching period! I love my red heads. Do the 8df (stock weights) 4.5 heel 3.6 tip with a green spring 51/43 helix you will love it. Pulls like a fright train for just being a stock sled. Pipes are great bump in hp. Draw more attention though and like said fuel mpg suffers. Polaris idler wheels help take rolling resistance out. Tune her up and RIDE ON!

So what is changing the weights and springs changin from stock form? Engagment, top end, low end, up shift, back shift? Ect

By Changing springs and weight(rivets) you are changing the character of the way the clutch grabs/holds the belt. The factory settings left a lot on the table to gain from... You will gain what is called efficiency and your clutches will have less slip the sled will launch better and have a more positive feel in the mid range and of course you will reach top speed quicker, although it will not raise your top speed unless you re-gear as stated above.

When you go towards a 2:1 ratio your sled will wake up and you WILL gain some MPH and you will notice better fuel economy with the re-gear and clutch mods. Just my $.02.
