my buddy has an 03 MTN Viper and he just purchased some simon's CPR trips for it. is it safe for him to run a tempaflow or ATACC with the pipes or should he just jet it the old fashioned way?

I have Atacc and SLP pipes on my Mnt. Viper. I jetted as rich as I could (for cold, -20 I believe) and then installed the Atacc and pipes.

At idle my sled smokes A LOT (very rich)... but runs well because Atacc leans out accordingly by design. Mostly ride in MN on North Shore of Lake Superior (varies from 600 feet above sea level to about 2,000 feet above sea level up over the hill.... Temps also very ALOT from -20 to +40 and swing alot during the day). At warmer temps i am often very sluggish due to being a little too rich still.

I've also gone out west to higher elevations several times and it's a slick set up...

I also have the attacc unit on my viper and love it. I have rode from 500 -10,000ft and temps from -20f - +50f and have not had a problem. A little rich at 9-10,000ft but not horrible.

HOWEVER, I would call Holtzman Engineering 715-479-8727. I remember that the range does change when you have triple pipes. Instead of 0-10,000ft I believe it was 0-6000ft.

For $250 you can have a snappy throttle all day no matter the climate!

I also replied to your PM, Catmechanic.....

About the Atacc, mind you that I am no expert mechanic.... SLP and Holtzmann Engineering provided specs for jetting everything with the triple pipes that we followed those specs to a "T" so to speak, based on the assumption that I'd be riding under conditions (like -20) that would require large jetting. You have to jet for the conditions you will ride in that require the largest jetting/most fuel.

My understanding is then the Atacc effects the fuel mixture back in each carberator bowl, and restricts the amount of fuel that travels on past there, from the bowl that is, based on barometric pressure or atmospheric pressure, I believe......

No mind you the Ataac is not perfect or as precise as say EFI in the newer 4 strokes. And many on TY fear them (Tempa flows and Ataccs, that is....), fearing that they may fail or "lean you out" at the wrong times, such as after quick starts after stopping for a brief time (engine temps confusing the Atacc sensor) or during WOT.

But they do work if installed properly....... Your friend's pipe manufacturer should have provided him with a jetting chart based on his riding temps and usual altitudes. SLP did for me anyways....

What I ran into alot prior to Atacc was very frigid mornings and warm afternoons, and I'm not gonna change jetting out on the trail! So the Atacc helps a lot when it warms up. It's not perfect, but helps. But i still get boggy on really hot or humid days when the snow is melting. I run with 800 Summits all morning but warmer temps effect me worse. Now mind you these Summits all have DPM (basically the Atacc installed on each Summit at factory I think).

But the sled runs better now than did prior to install of Atacc, which is good enough for me!

I just cross my fingers every time I go WOT or when it's below zero out that I don't blow her up, but then again, doesn't every one of us when running a two stroke each time we do that?

Hope this helps.

Mike ;)! ;)! ;)!
