Anyone around here used or know of Fix powersports in Bryon, MN? I just bought a 02 viper and it has thier most aggresive clutch kit and cold air intake kit installed (of which they say are one of a few that actually make power). They said they can complete the mods with thier Cobra Kit and I have no idea what that includes. Their web site is fairly dry, just curious if anyone has had experince with them.

the mod consisted of a head mod with removeable domes, silencer mod and they were working on a pipe mod. Thay also had a king cobra mod, which I believe was a big bore. Would you mind telling me what helix angle it is , and if there heel clickers on the primary as I have there ram air system. Tere is a t.y. member on here that has had this mod done they could give you an idea as to what to expect.

I saw that ram air on their site, looks trick. Does it actually work and what exactly do you have to install? HP claims?

I don't see any picts on the site either. I'll take pictures of mine once I get the sled cleaned up and ready to go.
I guess the king cobra package is ~150hp, wow.

kinger they told you 150 hp with the king cobra kit , is that a 780 single pipe? the ram air are the same ducts you have but blocked off going to the engine compartment and redirecting it to the top off the air box. you need to re jet and dissassemble your top pod to put in the new ducts, the instructions are clear and to the point, jerry did it so his wife could the installation ,tongue in cheek. I never got a chance to see if it made a difference on asphalt but on the snow it seemed to but whenever you spend money your already biased to thinking it works.

webbe- The owner i bought the sled from said it was 150hp, I haven't gotten a straight number from Fix yet. The sled already has the CAI installed and on it when I bought it. Its a friend of mine and I pick it up over turkey day weekend

I had my viper done by these guys, I cannot say enough about the reponse it has and the questions I get asked. I also have two srx's done up by him, a 700SX, and a RX-1, they guy knows what he is doing and wont sell it unless it actually does something for the machine. The cobra kit is an animal and does not hurt my perfomance as far as top end or gas mileage either. I constantly see all the hype on Hauck and I'm not knocking him but Fix is as good if not better as hauck was going to sell me pipes and fix told me to stay away from pipes as you don't get what you pay for them and by going a different direction fo a little bit more money you get the ride you want.

Hauler,
I've got the same kit off a used Viper (Can mod, Forced air induction mod, Head mod, clutch kit and jetting) and I have a few questions as I install this in my Viper. The clutch pieces appear to be stock swing weights with a slighlty larger rivet in the tip and a Primary spring that is marked Yellow Green. Is this a Yamaha primary spring? I thought they were all 3 color coded ex. Y-G-Y or Y-W-Y etc. Also the secondary spring appears to be pink unless the paint is just faded. I'd like to put fresh springs in it and get it dialed in which leads to my next question. What is the shift RPM? Is it still 8,400 or does the high compression head bump it up a bit? Give me a shout on my cell if that's easier to answer my ??? 847-909-5792
Thanks!

Keep in touch how these mods work from Jerry Fix. I would like to hear some real world tests. It sounds good. If it works, it makes me wonder why more haven't done them. Several years ago (like 15-16) I bought a brand new 1990 Exciter from Pat Hauck that had a sleeper mod kit in it. He ported the cylinders and modded the stock exhaust. Actually it turned out to be a secret mod right from Yamaha's R&D which was written up in a magazine a few years later when they released the 1993 Exciter II SX. (one I also owned) I tell you what. That 1990 was a hot running sled. It outran piped Exciters, Indy 650's, Wildcats and Mach 1's of it's time period. There is a possibility that Jerry may have gotten some info from the R&D guys. The nice thing about these type of mods is the sled looks stock and usually is more reliable in various conditions than a piped sled.

I had the king cobra kit on my viper from Fix, and he said it added about 16-19 hp. He know is stuff and is pretty honest, he just doesn't give out a lot of his secrets. I've had 2 sled done by him, and would never take them to anyone else.

Chance,
I really don't get into the numbers game. My question is how did it run against other sleds including a stock Viper? Did yours have the 780 big bore kit or just the other mods. Do you still own it?
thanks, j-man
PS: what was the cost of all the mods?

I don't think the Exciter pipe mod was a secret I had it done to my 89 Exciter at a Iowa dealership in fall of 89 ( shorten pipe, head mod etc... ) it was a good runner!
I had to put a pipe on the 93 SX to run as good

What was your dealer's name?? I can't remember the name of the Yammie dealer in NE Iowa but they were really up on the old Exciters. They were the ones that found out about the foaming in the float bowls(creating midrange lean burndowns) on the '87-90 Exciters. They came up with some weights they epoxied on the bottom of the carbs to help balance the vibration from them. Only select dealers usually get info from R&D.

Journeyman,
It was definetly faster then other 700's. I had a problem with hook up, but had the shitty stock track. That is the first thing that should be changed. I didn't have the 780 kit. I don't believe he offers that. I did have the domed head inserts, cold air kit, clutching, exhaust mod and torque arm added. This is what he called his viper king cobra kit. It ran great, and got the same great mileage as stock, just had to use prem gas. I don't have it anymore, because I missed my SRX and found an 02 for an even up trade. I believe all said and done, it was about $1300. I think it was worth it. I know pipes were around that price at the time, and then you would have to clutch it, so I figured that it was better to go this route, and I know he stands behind his work. They guy is the only certified yamaha tuner in the state I believe. He is the guy who set-up the RX-1's for the races up to Iron Eagle WI races. If you have any more questions I will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

This is true, he did build the motors and clutches for the Yamaha teams and their enduro 4 stroke teams.
