im just about finished with my engine rebuild and in wondering if i need to fill the crank case with anything like fuel or mix before it goes back in the sled?
As long as you coated all of the moving parts in 2 stroke oil including the cross shaft gear, you don't need to add anything to the crankcase.
Remember that the crankcase is actually part of your intake tract. You don't want to hydro-lock the cylinder or fill the exhaust pipe up which is what will happen if you fill the crankcase. It is not vented (except when the transfer ports open) like a 4-stroke.
The oil mixed with your fuel is what lubricates the crank etc.
