i bought a viper with a set of handlebar hooks on it that i want to remove, but how do you get the part that the hooks screw into out of the bars? i have the hooks out but i cant the other slanted section that they screw into out, any help would be appreciated thanks
Uh oh
You should'nt have unscrewed it completely. All you have to do is loosten the allen several turns. Then you push in on the allen which will push the slanted part away from the hook while you pull out on the hook and it will all come out as a unit. It's the same concept as the stem on a cheap BMX bike. Didn't you ever take one of them apart as a kid?

if i screw the hook back in will it still work? so i would have to push in on the allen bolt while i pull out on the hook?

Shouldn't have to, should be able to just pull it out. The bolt pulls the two halves together and wedges them in the bar end. So if you loosen the bolt and pull on the hook the other half should came out with the hook.
Another note. If you are not careful putting the bolt back in, you may push the other piece farther up the handlebar tube.

Might have to cut the handle bar apart and tap it out from the back of the piece. Maybe it squeezed it in the bar during the crash?
squirt some pb blast in the ends of the bars. find a bolt with same thread as the bar hooks and use it,
(sacrificial bolt)not the stainless one that came with the hooks. use a slide hammer and slowly work it out. what happens in this situation is the aluminum bar hook stay corrodes with the steel bars creating a holding force that is unlike anything. galvanic corrosion is the term i believe. good luck. bondo brand slidehammers at your local autozone or schucks run about $20, if you cant find a loaner.
