Hey guys, i am debating if i should replace the crank seals while i have the motor out to replace a broken steering post? My 2000 SRX has just over 16,000km on her with a new top end done at 12,000kms. I have been good at keeping up the maintenance on the sled and need to get two more seasons out of it.
Personally I would pull the crank and check it out carefully replacing all seals. As long as your inner bearings are good and the crank is true, it doesn't cost much to do.
That said, I could see simply running it until she blows. Is the rest of the sled in good shape? (Clutches, shaft bearings, gears, chain, drivers, track, skid, front susp, etc.)

just do them for your peace of mind. we have no choice on the viper as it took out the crank. going to be a massaged motor now.

Ding, i would like to think the sled is good shape. What prompted this was a drive shaft and steering post failure(at the same time! check out one of my older posts) at the end of last year, so i am replacing the drive shaft, chain case, chain, all new bearings and steering post. I think i have been good on keeping her in good shape, clutches rebuilt, new top end, all new suspension bushings, etc. To be honest every time i changed something out for "piece of mind" maintenance we were alway very surprised on how much life was still left in the higher milage parts! This sled has been great, never left me on the side of the trail until last year, the first time, at 16,000kms!
I agree i will get the crank inspected and change out all seals. I need two more years before i can jump to the 4stroke side. Something about putting my kids first with a Disney Land trip. Need to keep them happy so they don't throw me into some god awful retirement home when i am like 80yrs old. LOL!

just buy them a kittycat or 120 so they can go sledding with you. never keep them in the house at all during the winter as long as there is gas for it.
