I'm currently reading the latest issue of Sport Rider and just finished the article on the latest crop of litre bikes and am for the most part impressed with the performance of the bikes.But you know Yamaha is making it increasingly harder to fly the tuning fork flag when they produce a bike that is about 10hp down from the others and looks like the new R1.Yes I know horse power isn't all there is to a bike and the testers commented that the new cross plane engine had the best sounding mill of the bunch but you'd think that the engineers would have wanted to make the engine a bit more competitive with the others.And who designed that tail section anyway?Please tell me that wasn't the design that won out with that stubby tail and odd looking muffler/heat shield section.
Lets take the new engine and slap it into an 08 frame because lets face it the latest rendition of the R1 is less than totally appealing,unless your only looking at the front half of the bike.From the riders seat to the front wheel is spot on but the rest I would have left on the drawing board.
Just my own humble opinion here but lets see how others view the new R1.

The 09 is the reason I wont be getting rid of my 05 antyime soon.
I honestly don't know why Yamaha put out a rear tail section with an exhaust/heat shield design that looks like that.It looks unfinished to me but personally I'd like to see them go back to a side mount exhaust so............
