There is a fair bit of chatter about going the M10 route to improve the Viper rear suspension. I have also read a number of stories about used skids that require serious coin to bring back to life. I do wish to upgrade my suspension but worry of becoming another victim by buying something unseen over the internet. Has anyone found good bang for the buck by installing better shocks in the stock suspension or is that just a waste of time and money? I would be interested to hear if anyone has some suggestions other than replacing the entire skid (there has been a fair number of posts about that already).
Do people buy aftermarket skids and take them with them when purchasing a new machine? Would I be out to lunch to purchase a new Airwave or M10 Air and put it in the Viper and then take it with me when I upgrade the machine years down the road?

i think alot of people keep them when they upgrade sleds, as long as they're not going to a different length or width track
some guys do take them to their new sled. cannot go wrong with olins or a simple rebuild of your stock shocks either for an improvement.

It will be better by bigger 46 mm diameter shocks if those are shimmed ok.
I wouldnt go to M10 because its geometry is degressive.
If you plan to use other skid go to skidoo sc-4 with piggy pack shocks. Sc- 4 geometry is progressive. And use shock settings for enduro racing.

send your stockers into pioneer in NY to get rebuilt and re-valved. Should be a much better noticeable difference.
Best bang for the buck. Still plenty of time before snow

Revalved shock will be a noticeable improvement, but it will still be a sub standard ride.I have been down this road and after 2 revalves by pioneer I put in a m-10, which is awsome for ride.I do recommend bruce though he is a great guy and revalved mine a second time for free because he did'nt think they were right and it was much better the second time , but it will never be like a m-10 or most of the other factory skidframes Bruce at Pioneer told me that himself, that my 2 cents.
get a xpert x suspension works great on the viper

Look into the ad-boivin suspension as well, they make a stupid light composite skid and it is all air and can be extended. Very reasonably priced in comparison to the M-10. I won the M-10 Master and I love it, will definitely consider it for my next machine. As far as what Samuel said about it being degressive, it works the opposite way of most suspensions, that is why the shock is more vertical, you actually use the shock, the arms for suspension, and this allows for more control over the bumpies. So I have read, and felt. I no longer get thrown up on moguls. My suspension is now setup for smooth trails and mogul mashing, perfect.

Degressive means that lower suspension goes it will need even less force to go even lower because shock piston speed reduces. Same time spring force grows what shock must control. And for that reason its very difficult to shim shocks on degressive skid to carry big bumps and same shock work well smaller or low speed bumps.

I put an Ohlins shock in my girlfriends sxviper. It wasn't set up for my weight but I could feel it was a huge difference from stock. I could tell it worked for her also, just by how much faster she was in rough trails. It's not an m-10 but it's a lot cheaper fix also.

when i put the m-10 in my viper, i kept the stock suspension. plan on putting the m-10 in my next sled. spend a little more now, do it right and get an m-10. yes, it is that much better.
Thanks for the opinions guys. At the moment I am seriously considering the M-20 Airwave. From what I have read nothing compares to this setup and with the option of taking it with me for my next sled I don't see how I can loose. Does anyone have advice about going in this direction? I have read somewhere that the FAST pricing is not written in stone - is that true? Being from Canada I will be paying a bit more for shipping and dollar exchange rates so money will be an issue. Any advice would be appreciated.
