life of stock reeds

5k, you should be ok, but you can pull them and check them. worst case scenario is that you fiip the petals over and use them for some more time.

my guess is the center petal of the reeds is starting to get small chips missing from it ...almost like it is delaminating and the 2 layers are comming apart ...i have replaced 6 sets .all srx reeds tho..and all had the same damage ....and all were under 3k ...pull them out and take a look ...more so if you have ever had any backfires on start up .....

Replace them. Five thousand is far enough. If they chip real bad or break on the trail the sled runs pig rich and ruins your day. Don't go aftermarket. Use OEM.

not quite so.....carbon tech petals are very good and last just as long.

I pulled mine out for the first time at 6800 miles on my sx-r 700.None were chipped, but some were sprung so to speak and not seating against the reed block.I did'nt flip them at that mileage as there fairly cheap I just replaced them with oem reeds.

this is an old thread, bit I pulled mine out to replace the needles and seats and all the stock reed petals were shot. I had to replace them. I think I posted pics of them. That may have been because of the needles and seats, but it's worth taking a look. i replaced them with carbon fiber reeds.

carbon tech reeds

I was looking at carbon tech but my question is how do you know what to get? They have three differnt ones....which ones would be the best choice for a viper with Haucks venom kit on it?
