ok i'm going to make this simple, i just purchased this sled and took off the brake pad after noticing it had a side pin that fits in the slot to prevent rotation of the pad i ordered another on exactly the same and installed it. Problem is now it is too close to the disk and the engine won't even turnover now. Is there a way to loosen the pad somehow make a better gap between the rotor and this pad? it doesn't look like it from my end but i am not a mechanic just a diy! Probably a dumb queston but its my first post so be nice

You need to take the brake back off and take the pads out. There is a plate that pushes on the pad when you pull the lever, it is self adjusting. As the pad wears the plate unscrews out of the assembly...you need to screw it back in. I don't remember exactly how....you may have to take the tin cap off the back of the "caliper" and reset it that way (it's been along time since I've played with one).
The brake won't stop the engine from turning over...

Hey thanks, took it apart from the back spring loaded tin cap with the 2 screws first and got to the inside screw adjustment, now the brake pad sits much deeper the way it should. Great site!

There is 2 brake pads on that sled.On the other side of the rotor there is a pad as well.
The pad you replaced pushes against the roter than the rotor slides against the other one.
Common cause of poor brakes on a exciter is the rotors hub will become stuck at the keyway only letting the one pad operate.
It is alittle work to unstick them but i highly recomend because brake fade will happen when you least expect it. Not fun!
