I am thinking of upgrading my receiver to an HD pvr from my regular HD one(6100) and some of the ones I'm considering buying don't have remotes with them. Are all the HD remotes with the pvr controls on them the same?I may sell the HD receiver I have now and I'm sure who ever buys it will want the remote so I'll have to buy another one if the receiver I buy in return doesn't have one. They should all be the same, the silver ones with the pvr controls, shouldn't they?

I do believe that all the silver PVR remotes are the same. You can purchase the remotes seperately as well. Just get the new HD receiver. You can take a hard drive and plug it in via the usb port to make it a PVR HD receiver. Its alot cheaper than buying the HD PVR receiver and you can pick how much storage you want.

Unfortunately my receiver doesn't have the usb port to allow me to do that I think only the 9200 series ones do mine is a 6100.
That's a nice Chevelle in your avatar too by the way.

Sorry. I meant the newer receivers like the 9200. Its cheaper to buy the HD receivers and add a hard drive than to buy the HD PVR. The silver remotes still work on all of them.
Thanks. Thats my old 68 chevelle that I used to have.

So other than the 9200's what other receiver offers HD and has a usb port for an extra hard drive? The pvr's have a built in hard drive to record to already correct? If I had a pvr it would solve my problem now as the GF would like to be able to record some shows that come on after she goes to bed to watch the next day and buying a 9200 pvr plus adding a hard drive seems redundant for what I want it for.I don't know why Bell wouldn't have a receiver available like mine so that I could just add an outside hard drive rather than have to upgrade to the dual tuner pvr of a 9200 series.Well I guess I just answered my own question there,to get ya to spend the $ for a more expensive receiver.

You can buy the non PVR 6141? 42? 43? and add on your own HDD to it, the downfall is you are not able to watch one program and record another, unless it is a prgram that has been previously recorded on the HDD.
The HDPVR gives you full ability to record two programs and watch a previously recorded program and also add on another larger HDD.
All Bell remotes willwork on your older 6100. You can buy a refurbished remote for about 15cdn at any satellite provider location.

Ok I'm seeing the advantage of the dual tuner pvr over just adding a hard drive to a receiver, that being the ability to watch one program and record another where the other setup wouldn't allow that flexibility. Thanks for putting up with the odd questions.

Actually Bell still offers the 9241 which according to the specs is a dual tuner PVR but they want way too much coin for it so I have been watching Ebay for one and do have a couple in my watching list.
