HAD A GUY ASK ME A QUESTION AT THE GRASS DRAGS OVER THE WEEKEND THAT STUMPED ME FOR A SECOND. GUY HAS A 98 SRX AND HE WANTED TO KNOW WHAT SIZE BASE GASKET UPDATES EXHAUST PORT ON 98 TO 2000 -01-02 SPEC. I HAVE TO SAY I TOLD HIM HE PROBLEY NEEDS A PORT JOB. I DID NOT RECALL A POOR MANS PORT JOB ON THE SRX 700 ENGINE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

It will work. I know the port timing was lower in the '98-'99's, but I don't remember how much. I think I recall some guys just doubling up on the base gaskets, and cutting the heads 20 thou.

tony, stock '98-'99 cylinders were 32.5mm from deck to port roof. '00-'02 cylinders were 31.4mm from the deck to port roof. take 32.5mm and subtract 31.4mm from that and you get 1.1mm. take 1.1mm and divide it by 25.4 and you get .043". each base gasket equals .010" thick, so you would need 4 extra gaskets on top of the original 1 that you need, so a total of 5 gaskets, seems to be it. he will need to then do something w/the heads of course.

his transfer durations might start to get a little high tho. deck height will go up the same .040" as well.

stock '00-'02 cylinders:

194* exh
130* main transfers
126* sec transfers
126* boost
32* blow down

stock '98-'99 cylinders:

190* exh
128.4* main transfers
123.7* sec transfers
123.7* boost
30.8* blow down

.010" (.254mm) raised--1 extra gasket
191* exh
129.5* main transfers
124.9* sec transfers
124.9* boost
30.75* blow down

.020" (.508mm) raised--2 extra gaskets
192* exh
130.7* main transfers
126* sec transfers
126* boost
30.65* blow down

.030" (.762mm) raised--3 extra gaskets
192.8* exh
131.9* main transfers
127.3* sec transfers
127.3* boost
30.45* blow down

.040" (1.016mm) raised--4 extra gaskets
193.8* exh
133* main transfers
128.5* sec transfers
128.5* boost
30.4* blow down

keep in mind it change all the timing

i know.....that's why i posted all the new durations of the ports, w/each .010" increase of base gasket. all the durations seem to increase pretty evenly and nice and gradual....IMO.
