Hey fellas, I'm buying rlbocks 99 srx with 645 miles. Pretty geeked about. I've had vipers, sx-r and 4-strokers never a srx. Looking for input on anything to watch out for down the line as far as recalls/motor issues after couple thousand miles. Already know about the w arms on the skid. I know he long traveled it. Mostly it will stay stock, maybe some mild porting down the line? Let me know. Thanks Joe :2strokes:

My buddy just picked up the same year 99 SRX not long ago. Can't wait to try it out for myself it looks like a clean sled. If I hear of any issues will let you know. I'm going to give it a better look when he brings it over to my garage. I'm going to help him have it ready for winter. Better to have everything looked after now so there are no surprises over the winter months.

the steering posts were weaker up to 00, and tey strengthened them in the 01+ models, correct me if I'm wrong?

I purchased an SRX in August and finally had a chance to take it for a rip yesturday, all I can tell you is Holy Phuck!!!!!!!!! I just loved the sound of a triple and the power to boot, I played around with clutches already and I installed a heelclicker kit in it and Boy does HAUL A$$, still have a couple more setups to try with 8BU-00 weights. Man I can't wait for snow. Why don't it snow already LOL

Check the wiring harness underneath the engine... check that. Pull it out from underneath the motor and run it across the carbs and down the side of the clutch housing. Then check the wiring harness in the sheet metal above your left foot. I have issues w/both... and knock on wood have had no issues since fixing both.

Wow, thanks for all the input. I will address these issues when I get it. I have heard about the wiring problems. Not to much on the crank though. Anyone had a issue with this? And is there a power difference from 99 to the 02's

Yeah, the 98-99's are around 135+ hp and the 00-02's are 140+ hp. And the 00-02 are 10-12 lbs lighter, all in all they have a better power to weight ratio and it shows.

Maybe should have went newer, but you don't come across them with that low of miles and in that kind of shape. I'm willing to take it apart and update everything. As far as the steering post, do you guys think this is something yamaha would stand behind if it broke? along with the crank?

I have a 2000 srx and love it! I found out the hard way that the steering posts were weak, that was fun.... If you have any sort of a riser on it, I would reinforce the post. I believe the 98 and 99 srx's were a little less horsepower and i have heard about the crank issue before too, wouldn't hurt to check it out. All in all, they are great sleds and wicked fast!!!

I've read that the 2000 had a few more ponies and it was 5mph faster on the top end.

Power valves,,go through them well and adjust them, the right way. they were all great but IMO '00-02 couldnt be beat.

I still have my powervalve adjusting tool from when I used to do my viper. Having them set right makes all the difference in the world.

Where can a guy pick up one of these tools? Both my sleds ( 03 viper mtn and 00 srx) have powervalves so one of these tools might come in handy

+2 on this as I wouldn't mind having one as well. :letitsnow

Just in case you guys don't know, turning the idle down to below 900rpm's puts the servo motor in the correct position for adjustment just like the tool does. lots of info on here for the right way to adjust.;)!
