Sled sizes vs box size

Does anyone here have a 88-98 Chev/Gm stepside? If so have you put a sled in the box ? My buddy is looking at getting into the sport but he has a stepside. Box is around 46 inches wide and i know smaller sleds like, ovation older phazers etc should fit but what about newer ones ?

The box should be a little over 48". I had one and a sheet of plywood would easily fit. (width wise) Most newer sleds have a 41"-43" ski stance plus add the skis (5.5") and you are around 48.5". I want to think those beds are 49" wide. Someone here will confirm.

Stepsides have a narrower box size. My 97 same truck as his with a regular box will fit a sheet of plywood between the wheel wells, but his wont'. Just wondering if anyone has put a newer phazer or even the proaction sleds into the back of these trucks
