gang, i was asked by the mayor of a small town in ontario where we ride (dubreuilville), if i could help them sell a few more permits to get more grooming funds for them.
the town has 900 total people and grooms 300+ miles of trails. the town losts its largest form of revenue, a lumber mill almost 2 years ago. they are floundering and need the commerce sledding brings to the town. the only other business other than hotel, gas and food is, a small mining operation.
i was going to offer permits for sale, having people pay pal me, and i would send them a permit and then i would pay the club for the permits.
the canadian govt put a stop to pay pal type selling for trail permits stating it was some sort of privacy violation for the clubs to use that type of sales tool. so i am just trying to use the system to help the club.
i am not getting anything from this at all. i will be eating the pay pal fees and the postage for the permits to the buyers. i am doing this to help the community. nothing more, nothing less.
buy before the dec 1st deadline and beat the price increase. 200.00 cnd funds per permit.
us funds will be prevailing exchange rate which is hovering right around 7-8% right now.
approx 185.00 usd per permit. i know the ofsc slogan of buy where you ride is a great feature, all i am asking is to spread the wealth to a very deserving community. ski

ttt 3 weeks left. and yes you can get a "classic" permit but, you have to get it from the district not the club. ski
Not trying to put a damper on this, but I'm not sure this is the best way to support the town. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs uses a matrix system to decide where permit revenues go, which is weighed by km of trails, grooming hours, number of permits sold. Can't remember the exact figure, but I believe the club only gets $10 from the permit sale, the rest gets decided later when the matrix is applied. An increase of a few hundred permits is not enought to swing where they will fall into the matrix. Best suggestion is to buy where you ride!skidooboy said:gang, i was asked by the mayor of a small town in ontario where we ride (dubreuilville), if i could help them sell a few more permits to get more grooming funds for them.

yes there is a matrix, and yes the clubs get ALOT more than 10% of the permit they sell, that is why i am helping this small club. this club sold barely 50 permits, i was trying to boost them to 70-80 if i could help. that would be enough to fund them for their grooming season.
not asking for people to dump their own clubs, just if they want to, and have to purchase more than one permit, to spread the wealth.
with your thinking if a few hundred permits wont make a difference in the matrix, what harm is it to help a small community that has no commerce left in the township at all, to help them sell a few more permits?
buy where you ride is a good slogan. unfortunately if you dont have a club near a large population, or desitination, border town. you have a very hard time selling many permits. case in point wawa, dubreuilville. everyone crosses at the soo and rides up, trains up or trailers up. most think the second they get into canada they need a permit wether they are riding immedately or not. so the soo gets alot of out of town sales. when these folks ride through wawa, dubreuilville, hornepayne, white river, manitouwadge (you get the picture). none of those towns benefit from the permit sale or the matrix from that permit sale especially after crossing districts.
i am just volunteering to help, out of my own state and country no less. not feeling the love. ski

I can appreciate what you are trying to do and my intention wasn't to bash. I was simply pointing out the flaws of the matrix system and as a former club director I know it fairly well. Taking a club from 50 permits to 80 permits might get them an extra $500-$1000. Better than nothing, but not much when you look at the big picture.
Your point about the boarder towns reaping most of the rewards is spot on and part of the reason I was point out the flaws. Like I said... buy where you RIDE, not where you CROSS. Boarder town should be forced to allow the purchaser to select the club they are buying from and not default to the local one.
Cheers
