My family owns an ovation already and its been a great second sled to keep around for early/late season ice fishing and just having fun on. Now my buddy is looking at getting into the sport - and he can get a good deal on one. Question is though, he is 220 + lbs. Would the ovation handle him well enough to really just go ice fishing on or should he be looking more for a phazer. The reason hes looking at smaller is he has a stepside truck and only has 46 inches to play with so anything newer/bigger sled is pretty much to wide to fit.
Thanks,
Jake

That's a big guy for that sled - but for ice fishing he should be fine, just don't expect a whole lot from it.

I've seen Ovations do some amazing things, albeit without a 220lb guy on board. As for the stepside, the width between the inner fenders is no different than a styleside. He just would not be able to put it in at an angle and close the gate like you can with a 8ft styleside. (well at least with an Ovation you can) Great little sled though, good start as long as he's not expecting too much from it. If he likes sledding, he can always trade up to something larger in future. G.

as a first sled it will be great for putting around ice fishing. it will haul 220lb with no problems as long as he slows down for bumps and holes in the trails. it will be a great 1st sled and if he gets bit by the bug, he can always up-grade later.
lots of trappers still use 250-400cc sleds and i know they cary/haul a lot more than 220lb on average. just have to respect the equipment and it will last a long time. that is what i mainly use my et410 for.
