Last year I lost a piston on my 97 vmax 700. So I'm starting to get around to looking at getting it going for the year and ended up buying a whole motor from a 98 700. I noticed on the head there is an additional small port on the clutch side of the head. First, I have no idea what it is? Second, do I just plug it since the 97 didn't have it? While I'm at it, anything else I should watch out for going into this swap? Thanks!
Got any pics of it? It is possible the head could of had heated carbs, that is what that port would have been for. It would have ran down to the carbs where the coolant flows through the carbs.
Probably for the heated carbs. My 97 didn't have them, but my bud's 99 did. Same head, just something extra there to look at if you don't need it.

I'll bet that's for heated carbs, if it is you can plug it, or get some heated carbs...
