I'm most likely gonna do a track extension on my SRX (121- 136), I was told to gear down one on top. What will this do to my top end in relation to what I have now? Also will I have to re clutch? Going into some unknown territory here, would appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks

I ran a 136" M10 with a 1.5" camoplast on my SRX for 5 years and did not change the gearing until I re-stretched it to 151". For trail riding, I don't think a re-gear is necessary. If you're getting offtrail alot, and don't mind sacrificing a little top end you would benefit to gear down - just my $.02

Did you notice any change in performance prior to the gear swap, ie. slower acceleration, loss in top end speed or anything else for that matter?

it really wouldn't be a fair comparision because I changed the track from studded 121" with stock suspension & transfer rods to a 136" M10 with non-studded 1.5" paddle. This was done prior to gearing down. The one thing I can say is that it still felt just as crisp with no noticable losses except for real deep snow - it felt like it struggled to maintain track speed. I was willing to live with this because most of my riding was on the trails then. On my setup, I shed some pounds with the M10 & track swap - even though the new track was longer, it was nearly the same weight without all the studs and backers. (I'm no where close to an expert on any of this but this has to tie into a "rotating mass" theory somehow)

If you like it the way it was for power and acceleration dont change a thing!
If you want more power change everything!
If you want more power change everything!

I did a 121-136 kit from tracks USA with the 1.25 rip saw wrapped around a viper rear end, front leveled with ohlins shocks, added v-force reeds, cold air kit, and had goodwin do a clutch kit to it and only lost a few mph off top end. Great low and mid range-beats up on my buddies 02 mach z-gotta love that. Has to be the most fun sled I have had-my wife has taken it over now.

Let me know how you make out. I have all the stuff to do mine except the track. I didn't get the track yet because I am unsure which track I want.
