just picked up a set of brand new 8dn-20's cheep but i need someone to help me out on how much rivet weight ill need to get me started. oh yeah, slp pipes 700 viper. thanks

what is this sled going to be used for?....trail riding?
what helix do you have?
what secondary spring do you have?
what primary spring do you have?
what mods does the sled have?....slp pipes only?.....porting too?

It has clutching is all stock with stock helix. just picked up a green white green primary spring and bought those 8dn-20's. plan to buy a 51/43 helix with a green secondary spring but not real sure yet. just need a real aggressive trail setup with enough backshift so it doesnt bog....
The sled has Slp ceramic coated pipes and trail porting. im guess the rpms need to be at what slp reccomends 8900 i believe, not sure if the porting will have affect there or not.

w/the 8DN-20's, i would start out w/3.6g both holes, stock y/w/y primary spring, 51/43 helix and green spring @ 60-70 deg. run it @ 8900-9000. IMO, the g/w/g spring rate might be too much.

i figured it wouldnt hurt to try the green white green if it is too much only take a secound to change it back. you think it would raise the engagement to high for trail?

it won't raise the engagement at all. my bad on the previous post about engagement raise. i was looking at the wrong spring on the list of springs on pioneer performance website. the rate of the g/w/g spring is higher than stock, which will cause the rate of shift to be slower, which i don't feel you need. the stock spring w/2.5kg rate should be fine and enough.

Weight

I don't think a stock motor with SLP pipes is going to pull 3.6 in both holes at that RPM with that helix configuration. Just my thought though. I'd also recommend trying to tune around the stock primary spring. If you put a green in the secondary at 60 or 70 as mopar says I think you'll be pulling a little more weight out of the 8dn-20's to get it where you want it.

madmatt, he's got a ported motor....not stock. i totally agree w/staying w/the stock y/w/y spring. if the 3.6g rivets don't work, then he can try the 3.1g rivets.

I have an 02 Viper w/ SLP pipes, 8DN20's with a total weight of 53.8gr.(4.5gr w/ couple of washers). I got a hold of these just in time for my last ride of the season this past year. It pulls hard out of the hole,(beat an F7 that supposedly had alot of clutch work, in duking 600'and I outweighed that driver a good 50#s) but I believe/know I have too much weight for the current spring which is a YWY primary, with a Hauck G helix, which I believe to be a 49/41 helix. Only revs to like 8200/8300 rpms, but it was also warm/slushy out when I tried this setup on on my last day of riding(March 28th in upstate NY). It was about 40 degree out. I would like to get it around 8800rpms. I was looking for a good aggressive trail riding setup, but for the occassional 600' run w/ the buddies. My sled has a Hartmann 136" kit, w/ 8 tooth drivers. I just picked up a 54/44 B Hauck Helix, which I think shall make it interesting to play with this year, after I take some weight out of the 8DN20's. Hope this helps.
