I've got an 86 phazer i rebuilt the motor for this last spring. Fired it up and stuff, didn't really ride it around since snow was gone, and parked it. I went to move it around and found the track would hardly turn, like it was bound up. pulled the skid found some tight bogey wheel bearings, still wasnt the problem, could barely spin driveshaft by hand. Pulled chaincase apart to find the upper gear had let the chain walk into the back of the case.
What would have caused this, I grabbed the secondary and yanked it laterly and the shaft has almose no play in it. Is the upper gear supposed to have a spacer behind it, because there wasnt one back there? is it common/possible for the bearing to walk back into the case causing this?
thanks

i think thare should be a spacer behind the top gear. also, replace or at least check the drive axle gear, the one opposite chaincase side...

yeah im replacing both of em in there. Im just confused as to what may have happened, there wasnt a whole lot of schrapnel in the case like if a spacer ground down or something.

Ok, well finally got around to screwing with this thing. What I found was the jackshaft bearing in the chaincase had a crack in the outter ring allowing the gear to get cocked downward and let the chain rub the case.
