Hello guys
I am new to Yamaha,I am coming off a 07 summit.I am waiting to get my 09 mtx153.The dealer and I are going back and fourth about what gearing and clutching goes in to this thing. If some one could tell me or point me in the right direction to find out what goes in it.
Thanks guys :ban:

19 tooth top gear? YES a must!

Clutching for Iowa and the snowies @ 8-10,000 feet. Iowa use stock primary all rivets removed and Yamaha 47 helix with pink spring @ 3-3. Snowies use stock primary all rivets removed and Yamaha 39 helix (stock) with Yamaha white spring at 6-1.
got this from Allen, if it helps you

I got a similar response from Allen (This is for a 2010 FX Nytro MTX SE 162):

"I would leave the gearing stock, yes you will sacrifice some top end back in MN but top end is not what you are going to be looking for anyway.

Back home run a Yamaha 47* helix with the stock secondary spring at 3-3. Out west run the stock 39* helix with a Yamaha white secondary spring set on 6-1."

I have a question back to him awaiting answer tho: My stock secondary spring is a White-White (Manual confirms it... checked it visually too) does it make sense to run that in MN with the 47* helix at 3-3?

And a White-White looks identical to just a White: 12654 Torsion, 13.5 Compression, 6.0 Wire Gauge, 5.19 Coils... So, looking at the 2008/09 MTX specs in the shop manuals... it does indeed look like they ran P for the stock secondary spring... Hrmmm perhaps I just need to grab that and a 47* helix?

Just seems odd to leave primary weights and spring all the same!

Thanks!
